What to check first
- Confirm the correct page or template was edited
- Review caching at the website, host, and CDN
- Regenerate assets only after preserving the current state
Check the page that is actually being served
Confirm the correct page, template, and responsive view were edited. A global header can differ from a page-level section, and a draft can differ from the published page. Compare the public URL with the editor preview in a private browser before changing anything else.
Trace each cache separately
Review the site's caching plugin, the hosting cache, and any CDN layer. Clear one layer at a time and check the result. If generated styles are stale, rebuild those assets only after saving the current state. Repeatedly pressing publish will not fix a server serving an older copy.
Verify the published result
Open the page on a phone and desktop, confirm the changed section appears, and test nearby layout and links. Document which layer held the older copy so future edits can be verified without guessing.
Can I turn off all caching?
A brief controlled test can help diagnose the problem, but a permanent fix should keep appropriate caching working.
