Google Says Your Website Is Hacked

How to respond when Google displays a hacked-site warning or reports security problems in Search Console.

What to Check First

  • Review the exact Google warning
  • Check Search Console security issues if available
  • Clean the cause before requesting a review

Read the Actual Warning

Record the pages and example URLs flagged by Google and inspect available Search Console security information. Preserve logs and copies before deleting content. The warning may relate to redirects, injected pages, malicious downloads, or compromised third-party code.

Clean and Close Access

Investigate files, database entries, administrator users, plugins, and scripts. Remove harmful content, rotate credentials, and fix the vulnerable entry point. Test for behavior that appears only to search visitors or new devices.

Request Review After Verification

Once the cause and visible symptoms are resolved, follow the available review process. Monitor warnings and the site's behavior afterward; a removed banner does not guarantee the compromise was eradicated.

Should I Hide the Warning with a Redesign?

No. The underlying security issue must be handled before asking visitors to return.
