MAINTENANCE

How Often Should a Small Business Website Be Updated?

There is no single calendar rule. The useful schedule depends on the platform, security needs and how often the business changes.

A website does not need a redesign every year. It does need attention. The right maintenance rhythm depends on whether the site is static HTML, WordPress, an e-commerce system, or another platform.

Security and software

Platforms, plugins and dependencies should be kept current according to their maintenance requirements, with backups and testing where appropriate.

Business information

Services, contact details, hours, staff, photos and service areas should be updated when the business changes.

Content

New helpful content can support customers and search visibility when there is something genuinely useful to say. Publishing filler just to have a new date is not the goal.

Performance

Review the site when it becomes noticeably slower or after significant changes to hosting, plugins, design or content.

Full redesign

A redesign is a larger decision. It should be based on the condition and goals of the site, not an arbitrary annual schedule.

The best maintenance plan is usually a simple one: keep the technical foundation healthy, keep the business information accurate, and improve the site when there is a clear reason to do so.
